Kolkata Knight Riders mentor Gautam Gambhir recalls how team co-owner Shah Rukh Khan once helped him overcome skinny issues with the bat. The incident occurred during the 2014 IPL when Gambhir, who was the team captain at the time, had a poor performance at the start of the game and thought of giving up. At this point SRK told him not to do this. The result was Gambhir leading KKR to the title.

Overall, Gambhir led KKR to two IPL titles, the other one coming in the 2012 edition. Gambhir joined KKR as a team mentor ahead of IPL 2024.

“I cannot take one point in four games. I have said it many times, I think he is the best owner I have ever worked with. It is not because I am part of KKR now or I was part of KKR Part of it,” Gambhir said on the KKR Knights Dugout podcast.

“I don’t think so, in the seven years I was captain of KKR, we didn’t even have a seven-minute cricket conversation, except for that patch that I was going through. That time we had a conversation too because I was in the fall The only thing he told me was, ‘You’re not going to give up until you come here’,” he added.

Gambhir further praised Shah Rukh, the Bollywood actor for having faith in him.

“Imagine a guy, as a boss who has achieved so much himself, doesn’t even talk about cricket or ask you anything about your decision-making. He trusts your decision-making,” he said.

“I’m not saying I made all the right decisions. But he never questioned my decisions and that was the trust he had in me,” Gambhir concluded.
