Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today skipped the seventh summons by investigating agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case related to the Delhi Excise Policy case.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) urged the ED to respect the legal process and wait for the court’s decision instead of repeatedly issuing summons to Mr Kejriwal. The party argues that many of the summons sent to the Chief Minister are unfair.
“The matter is currently in the court, the next hearing is scheduled for March 16. Instead of sending summons daily, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) should be patient and wait for the court’s decision,” AAP said.
This was the seventh time that Mr Kejriwal had been summoned by the investigating agency in connection with the case. Earlier this month, the agency took the case to a city court after Mr Kejriwal did not respond to several summons related to the investigation.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and ED are probing the now-defunct Delhi government excise policy for 2021-22 for allegedly favoring some liquor dealers. Aam Aadmi Party has strongly denied the allegations. Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena recommended a CBI inquiry into alleged irregularities in the policy after receiving a report from the Chief Secretary to the Delhi government.
In April, Mr Kejriwal was interrogated by the CBI for nine hours in connection with the case. AAP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in February this year.
