Telangana Congress government presents first budget, promises Rs 53,196 crore for six polls

The Congress government presented its first budget in the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Saturday. Presenting the Rs 275,891-crore budget, Finance Minister and Deputy Minister CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said the country’s economy was in trouble due to the “misconduct” of the previous government.

Revenue expenditure was Rs 2,01,178 crore and capital expenditure was Rs 29,669 crore. Rs 53,196 crore has been allocated to fulfill the party’s six pledges. Here are some of the key department assignments:

  • Industry Ministry Rs 2,543 Crore
  • IT sector Rs 774 crore
  • Panchayati Raj Rs 400.80 Crore
  • Rs 11,692 crore allocated to municipal departments
  • Ministry of Agriculture Rs 19,746 crore
  • Rs 21,874 crore for SC welfare
  • Rs 13,013 crore for ST welfare
  • 2,262 crore for minority welfare
  • Rs 1,546 Crore for BC Provincial Welfare and BC Gurukul Construction
  • 80 billion rupees for B.C. welfare
  • Education Sector Rs 21,389 Crore
  • Rs 500 crore to set up government schools in Telangana
  • Rs 500 crore for university facilities
  • Rs 11,500 crore for health sector
  • Rs 16,825 crore provided to power companies

In his speech, the Finance Minister said: “Of the six guarantees we committed to, we activated two of them within 48 hours of taking office. We implemented them for eligible beneficiaries who received their receipts between December 28 and January 6. Special arrangements have been made for applications under six guarantees. We have received a large number of applications of Rs 1.29 crore. The applications have been digitized to facilitate identification of eligible beneficiaries and mobilization of resources.”

“Our government launched the free RTC bus transport facility under the Mahalakshmi Scheme on December 9, 2023. Women in the state are very satisfied with the facility. To ensure smooth implementation of the scheme, we are providing Rs 300 crore per month to TSRTC funding, we will continue to support the program.”

“Another public welfare scheme – Rajiv Aarogyasri – has been revised and we have doubled the medical limit from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. Furthermore, to ensure uninterrupted medical services to the needy, we The pending dues have been released under Arogyashri. This measure will provide much-needed relief to patients who have been adversely affected due to cessation of treatment due to non-payment of hospital dues.”

He said two important commitments of the government are supply of LPG cylinders at Rs 500 under the Gruha Jyothi scheme and provision of free electricity of 200 units per month to all eligible consumers. The Council of Ministers approved the implementation of both plans at its meeting on February 4.

“Soon, the modalities for implementation will be finalized and plans will be rolled out. Additionally, our government is committed to implementing Rythu Bharosa, Indiramma Houses, Cheyutha and Yuva Vikasam. We are committed to implementing them at the earliest,” he added.
