Hyderabad:

A senior Telugu Democratic Party (TDP) leader has accused the Andhra Pradesh police of unauthorized phone tapping in a complaint filed with the Election Commission of India. Former Congress MP Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar alleged that the wiretapping was done at the behest of the state government in view of the upcoming elections.

In his complaint, Kumar said that Nara Lokesh, son of former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, received an alert on his iPhone “notifying that his phone was being used by an unknown agency Pegasus software eavesdropping”. He added that he had received a similar alert in March 2024.

“We have said time and again that the current Deputy Inspector General of Police Sri Rajendranath Reddy and Intelligence Chief Mr. PSR Anjaneyulu have become lackeys of the YSRCP and resorted to unethical and illegal acts to jeopardize the NDA alliance partners in prospects in the subsequent Assembly elections. AP and Lok Sabha,” the complaint reads.

In his complaint, Mr. Kumar also urged the ECI to take action against these officials and appoint neutral and reputable officials to their posts.

In the first phase, elections for 175 parliamentary seats and 25 Lok Sabha seats will be held on April 19. The state’s main opposition party TDP has joined hands with the Jana Sena of the Jana Sena and the Jana Sena of the Janata Party and actor Pawan Kalyan ahead of the elections.
