It has been nearly four months since India lost the World Cup final to Australia, but the bad memories of the defeat still haunt the players and fans. India entered the final as the only unbeaten team in the tournament but were eliminated by Australia at the last hurdle. The defeat extends India’s ICC trophy drought, with their last success on the world stage dating back to 2013 when they won the Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni. In 2023, India lost two ICC finals, both to Australia. India also lost to the Pat Cummins-led team in the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June last year.

The WTC final takes place a few days after the IPL 2023 final. This year, the cash-rich league will also be followed by the T20 World Cup between West Indies and the United States.

India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin admitted that the team is indeed going through an ICC trophy drought.

“We have lacked chances of winning ICC trophies over the years and have been eliminated in the semi-finals or finals. This year again the ICC T20 World Cup is being held just five days after the IPL final, like in the recent past,” Ashwin said his Youtube channel.

The new season of IPL will kick off on Friday, March 22, with defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the tournament opener.

However, due to the general election, BCCI has only announced the schedule for the first 21 games.

The Election Commission of India announced on Saturday that the general election will be held in India from April 19 to June 1, 2024. It will be conducted in seven different phases, with results due to be announced on June 4, 2024.

BCCI is reportedly exploring the possibility of hosting the second half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the UAE.

With the election dates now announced, the BCCI is likely to announce the dates for the remaining matches soon and be notified of possible venue changes.
