World’s top-ranked T20 batsman Suryakumar Yadav will miss a few IPL games as he is still recovering from sports hernia surgery, with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) keeping a close eye on it his progress. Yadav, who plays for Mumbai Indians, has been absent from the league and his team has lost two matches so far. “Surya is making very good progress and will soon be back playing for MI. However, he may have to miss a few more games as he missed the first two games,” a BCCI source express.
While MI is missing Yadav, the BCCI does not want to take a chance on the big man’s fitness as he is expected to play a big role in the upcoming T20 World Cup between the United States and West Indies in June.
“For the BCCI, the main concern was whether he would make it to the World T20s (which he did). Obviously he will play for MI, but after undergoing a sports hernia surgery, he cannot be rushed,” the source said.
The 33-year-old has often been compared to retired South African great AB de Villiers’ shooting range. His strike rate in this format is as high as 171.55.
Yadav represented India in 60 T20 internationals and scored 2141 runs, including 4 hundreds.
MI will host Rajasthan Royals in the first match of the third Test on Monday in Mumbai.
