Rajasthan Royals sealed their place at the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 points table thanks to an unbeaten 121-run partnership between Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Saturday. While captain Samson led the attack by scoring 71 runs in 33 balls against Lucknow, Jurel proved that he is also a capable T20 batsman with a brilliant half-century. While Samson received the highest praise, Jurel was given the title of ‘Jewel’ by former India coach Ravi Shastri.

RR captain Samson top-scored for RR with an unbeaten 71 runs in 33 balls, while Jurel played a stormy innings of 52 runs in 34 balls. LSG’s bowlers failed to hit the mark and were further shattered by dropping several catches.

Chasing the target of 197 runs, openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler gave a great start to Rajasthan Royals in the powerplay.

LSG skipper KL Rahul opted to keep the momentum going as he brought in Yash Thakur for the last over of the powerplay and the bowler gave his team a major breakthrough by dismissing in-form Jos Buttler in his very first over.

In the seventh over, RR lost both their openers as Marcus Stoinis dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal with his very first ball of the night. KL Rahul ultimately opted to make changes to the spin as he brought Krunal Pandya into the attack and the bowler bowled an economical over giving 7 runs.

41-year-old Amit Mishra announced his arrival in style as he dismissed Ryan Parag and put further pressure on RR’s run-chase. Dhruv Jurel showed some much-needed explosiveness at the crease and took an aggressive approach against Mohsin Khan, hitting three fours and a six.

Samson brought up his half-century in 28 balls, while Jurel continued his fine form and brought up his maiden IPL half-century in 31 balls. In the 19th over of the game, Samson and Jurel hit fours and sixes and helped their team win by 7 wickets against the home team.
