Supriya Sule and sister-in-law Sunetra Pawar nominated for Baramati Lok Sabha seat

Baramati will go to polls in the third phase on May 7.

Three-time Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule and her sister-in-law Sunetra Pawar on Thursday filed mahallas on NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) and NCP votes respectively Nominations for Baramati Lok Sabha seat in Pune district, Strabang.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, husband of Sunetra Pawar, has also submitted a set of nomination papers for the seat, which an NCP functionary described as a backup plan in case Sunetra Pawar’s nomination does not withstand scrutiny or discover any differences therein.

Polling will be held on May 7 in Baramati, a pocket ward of Pawars.

Congress leaders Balasaheb Thorat and Vishwajeet Kadam, among others, accompanied Sharadchandra Pawar, the sitting MP from Baramati and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) president Sharad Pawar’s daughter Sule submits her nomination papers to the election officials at the Assembly Hall in Pune.

Later in the day, when poll-first contestant Sunetra Pawar filed her nomination in the Assembly chamber, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Devendra Fadnavis and NCP leader Praful Patel were present.

Ahead of filing nominations, the ruling ‘Mahayuti’ constituency – the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Shinde, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the NCP led by Ajit Pawar – held a campaign rally.

Addressing the rally, Shinde said change in Baramati was inevitable and raised a slogan – “Abki baar, Sunetra Pawar”.

Mr. Fadnavis said that Baramati will create new history as the “daughter-in-law of Baramati” will leave for Delhi.

Sunetra Pawar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done a tremendous job and the world has taken notice.

Praful Patel and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, leader of the Republican Party of India (A) and a BJP ally, also attended the rally.

Earlier in the day, Sunetra Pawar and Ajit Pawar visited the Dagadusheth Halwai Ganpati temple here and performed ‘Aarti’.

Actor-turned-politician Amol Kolhe, the sitting MP and National Communist Party (SP) candidate from Shirur Lok Sabha constituency in Pune district, also filed his nomination before the election officials here.
