NCP (Sharad Chandra Pawar) leader Supriya Sule on Sunday said the BJP conspired to get her sister-in-law Sunetra Pawar in Pakistan Ramati Lok Sabha seat against her with the aim of eliminating party leader Sharad Pawar.

Ms Sule said Sunetra Pawar was her “brother’s wife and the sister-in-law was considered the mother”.

“This is the dirty politics of the BJP. Sunetra Pawar is my brother’s wife and holds a special place in the family as the ‘vahini’ (Marathi) sister-in-law. She is like a mother to me but she is contesting against me just to create a rift in the family and the BJP is behind all this. This is a conspiracy of the BJP to eliminate Pawar Saheb ( Sharad Pawar)’s reputation; they have nothing to do. It has to do with development of the constituency etc.,” she added.

Meanwhile, after being announced as the official candidate of the Grand Alliance for Baramati seat, Sunetra Pawar said: “Today is a big day for me. I want to thank Narendra Modi Prime Minister, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Ajit Pawar has shown faith in me.”

After the announcement of the candidates of Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party, the Baramati seat in Pune district has become a key battleground in the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, turning it into It became a “Pawar vs. Pawar” contest.

The Maharashtra Lok Sabha polls will be held in five phases on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13 and May 20. Counting of votes will take place on June 4.

The state has 48 Lok Sabha seats and is the second largest contributor to the Lok Sabha after Uttar Pradesh. Known for its political diversity and significant electoral clout, Maharashtra plays a vital role in shaping state politics.

In the 2019 elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the largest party with 23 seats, followed by the Shiv Sena with 18 seats.
