Hardik Pandya returns to Ahmedabad as Mumbai Indians take on Gujarat Titans, a team he led for two seasons before returning to his old club team. After Hardik decided to leave for Mumbai, Gujarat promoted Shubman Gill as team captain. Gill and Hardik reunited on Sunday, however, as MI traveled to Ahmedabad for the first match of the season against GT. Considering the change in IPL dynamics, Gill admitted that the duel between the two at the Narendra Modi Stadium will be an exciting battle against Hardik.
Before the match, Gill spoke of his admiration for some of India’s best captains. Although the top-order batsman has not played under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, it is the wicket-taker whom he admires most as a leader.
“I didn’t play under Mahi Bhai (MS Dhoni) but as a kid watching what he did on the field, he was my inspiration,” the opener said.
Virat Kohli is also someone Gill looks up to, but he spent most of his career in the Indian team under Rohit Sharma.
The 24-year-old added: “I have also played under Virat (Kohli) Bhai but most of my cricket has been under Rohit (Sharma) Bhai and I would personally pick out him A lot of qualities.”
“It’s great to play against five-time champions Mumbai Indians. But we haven’t lost a match against MI yet against them in Ahmedabad, so hopefully we can continue like this Momentum,” he explained.
Talking about Hardik, Gill, who has played for India and Gujarat Titans, will be exciting to watch under him against a Mumbai team led by the all-rounder.
“It will be exciting. Hardik (Pandya) bhai is someone I have played for in Team India and Team GT. So it will be an exciting and fantastic dynamic,” Gill asserted.
“Hopefully there’s 110,000 people cheering for us, there’s nothing better than that,” he said.
