Senior Congress leader and former Union minister Veerappa Moily has announced his retirement from politics.

However, he pledged to work for Chikkaballapura Lok Sabha candidate Raksha Ramaiah.

Veerappa Moi, who served as Chief Minister of Karnataka from November 1992 to December 1994, announced his retirement in Chikkaballapura.

The 84-year-old Congress leader is keen to get the Lok Sabha ticket from Chikkaballapura.

However, the party chose Raksha Ramaiah.

He told reporters on Tuesday that he would work for Ramaiah as a parliamentary committee staffer.

Moi was a union minister in the UPA-2 government, responsible for various affairs including oil and gas.
