The “fabulous” museum, the new home of the Stone of Destiny, opens this weekend in Perth, Scotland, following a £27 million redevelopment project.

The exhibition, located in the former Town Hall, will be open to the public on Saturday 30 March.

At its heart is the Stone of Destiny, which was originally preserved in nearby Scone and has returned to Perthshire for the first time in over 700 years.

Also known as the Scone Stone, it has long been used at the inaugurations of Scottish monarchs.

However, in 1296, it was confiscated as spoils of war by King Edward I of England and taken to London.

In 1996 it was returned to Scotland.
