School bus overturns in Haryana, 6 children killed, driver allegedly drunk

Six children were killed and more than 20 injured when a school bus overturned in Narnaul in Haryana on Thursday morning. Officials said schools are still functioning normally despite the Eid holiday.

The GL Public School bus overturned near the village of Kanina Uhani.

According to the school district government, 12 injured students have been sent to local hospitals. Two others have been shifted to Rohtak Hospital in critical condition.

District education officials said that after a preliminary investigation, it appeared the driver lost control of the bus and crashed it into a tree. He added that he was probably drunk.

Senior police officer Arsh Verma told New Delhi TV: “We are investigating the allegations of drunk driving and have conducted a medical examination of the driver. The bus’s certificate has not been updated.” Official documents show that the bus’s certificate has been It expired six years ago in 2018.

Police are currently questioning school authorities about the incident.

The parent of one of the students was also injured in a bicycle accident on their way to the accident scene. The student’s mother broke her leg and her sister was killed in the crash.
