D brand controversy

On Wednesday, Bhuwan Chitransh, an Indian man working in the Netherlands, complained on X that the skin of his MacBook had changed color within a few months of purchasing it from Dbrand. “@dbrand purchased this skin months ago. After just two months it doesn’t even stay the same color. What should I do?” he wrote.

The official Dbrand account does not provide a solution to the Chitransh problem Replied, “your last name is basically a rash, get serious”. While it seemed like a tongue-in-cheek reply at the time, it quickly sparked a backlash, with the post attracting more than 8 million views. User X expressed their dissatisfaction and demanded an apology from the company.

The issue seems to have caught the attention of popular YouTube user MKBHD, who took a stand against the Canadian brand. in an postalMKBHD wrote, “@dbrand will not cooperate with dbrand until at least the original tweet is deleted. You can make dirty jokes, but the internet has made it very clear how it feels about this joke, and the hurt it causes is unnecessary of.

I’ve been around long enough to have seen a lot of versions of this over the years. Apologies on the Internet tend to come in pairs. The first apology is often hasty and regretted later. The second, after a period of time, is usually more cautious and reflective. I’m definitely not going to ask for a second apology, but I’m definitely going to ask for a reflection part.”

DeBrand’s response

For the first few hours, Dbrand remained unapologetic, claiming that its feed was filled with replies like this that could give someone a “pearl-clutching heart attack.” However, it has now backtracked and claimed it had apologized to the Indian technician “as a gesture of goodwill” and paid him $10,000 in compensation.

DeBrand said in a statement: “This situation escalated quickly. Yes – we made fun of a man’s name. This was a huge mistake. We apologized directly to him and offered $10,000 as a gesture of goodwill.” “
