SBI's request for time to submit poll bond information rejected: Supreme Court says

New Delhi:
The Supreme Court today dismissed SBI’s petition seeking more time to submit details of electoral bonds. The committee headed by DY Chandrachud has asked banks to submit information by tomorrow evening.

Here are 5 quotes from the Supreme Court

  1. The SBI’s submissions make it clear that this information is readily available. An application filed by SBI seeking extension of the deadline to June 30, 2024 was rejected.

  2. We have directed a simple disclosure. So it doesn’t make sense to seek time to say you’re going to do a matching exercise, and we’re not instructing you to do that. SBI just needs to open the sealing cover, verify the details and provide the information to the Election Commission.

  3. While we do not currently intend to exercise contempt jurisdiction, we are giving SBI notice that if SBI fails to comply with its instructions within the time limits set out in this order, this Court may be inclined to proceed with proceedings for willful disobedience.

  4. What steps have you taken in the past 26 days? Your application remains silent on this.

  5. As far as the provisions of the electoral bonds scheme itself are concerned, the SBI is required to disclose information if required by a court.
