The veteran Chennai Super Kings batsman smashed 20 runs in just four deliveries against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024 at the MS Dhoni Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday. Dhoni batted with just 4 balls left in CSK’s innings but made the most of the situation, hitting Hardik Pandya for three consecutive sixes. Dhoni’s every brilliant stroke had the crowd in a frenzy and Sara Tendulkar, the daughter of legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, was also stunned by the explosive strokes on display .

Coming to the match, Rohit Sharma played a gritty shot but it was all in vain as Chennai Super Kings won the match by 20 runs Mumbai Indians game. Rohit remained unbeaten on 105 runs but the home team kept losing wickets and eventually, they fell well short of the target of 207 runs.

Earlier, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube scored brilliant half-centuries before Dhoni played the final blow to convert CSK’s total score crossed 200 with little help from the pitch for the bowlers.

After the match, Gaikwad had a unique tribute to Dhoni.

“It helped us a lot that the young wicketkeepers scored those three sixes and it proved to be the difference. For this kind of pitch, we needed 10 to 15 extra runs,” he said at the presentation ceremony.

Even MI captain Hardik Pandya acknowledged the importance of Dhoni in CSK’s system and pointed out that his presence will ultimately give his team a huge advantage.

“Their plans and approach are smart. They get the hang of it and it helps to have a guy (Dhoni) behind the stumps telling them what works,” the all-rounder said.
