Kolkata Knight Riders principal owner Shah Rukh Khan has backed the inclusion of left-handed power-hitter Rinku Singh in the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, terming it as his “personal wish”. 26-year-old Rinku came into limelight when he hit five consecutive sixes in the last over of Kolkata Knight Riders’ spectacular win over Gujarat Titans during IPL 2023. Rinku’s name is in discussion regarding the selection of 15-member Indian team. The team is looking forward to the T20 showpiece, which will be held in the USA and West Indies in June. His strike rate is over 176 with two fifties in 15 T20Is for India Expressing optimism for Rinku’s World Cup prospects, Shahrukh said during an interview on Star Sports, “Such an amazing player is playing for the country. I really am.” I am looking forward to Rinku, Inshallah and some other youngsters from other teams being in the World Cup squad.

“Some of them deserve it, but my personal wish is that Rinku makes the team. I would be very happy. That would be the highest point for me.” KKR’s top order has scored the most runs so far this season, but Rinku has not got many chances with the bat.

However, in his first season, the stalwart batsman from Aligarh scored 356 runs in 15 matches, out of which he remained unbeaten in seven matches. His runs came at a strike-rate of over 175, but power-hitting is not his only talent, as he has the ability to remain calm in pressure situations.

The Bollywood megastar, who shares a great bond with Rinku, is happy with her rise after facing many hurdles in her path to success.

Growing up in humble surroundings, Rinku’s family struggled to make ends meet, her father worked as an LPG cylinder delivery man and her mother was a housewife.

Despite being offered a job as a sweeper, Rinku followed her passion for cricket, believing it would take her to greater heights.

Shahrukh said, “I just want them to feel happy and when I see these boys playing, I feel like I am living as a player myself. Especially Rinku and Nitish (Rana). Like in the players, I see myself in them. I feel really happy.” When they perform well.”
