The upcoming One UI 6.1 update will bring Galaxy AI capabilities to the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 smartphones, the South Korean tech group announced on Thursday. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series will also be updated to One UI 6.1 to support the new AI features available on the Galaxy S24 series.

The first Galaxy AI feature coming to the company’s older phones and tablets is Circle to Search, which adds the ability to circle, highlight, or select objects and text in images searched on Google without leaving your current app program. Samsung introduced this feature with the launch of the Galaxy S24 series last month.

The upcoming update will also add Galaxy AI features to the company’s built-in apps, such as real-time translation for calls, text messaging in 13 languages ​​using chat assistance, and interpreter mode for real-time translation. Samsung Notes, Samsung Internet and Recorder apps will also get support for Note Assist, Browsing Assist and Transcript Assist functions respectively.

Meanwhile, the company’s older Galaxy smartphones and tablets will also feature generative AI capabilities. According to the company, Generative Editing will allow users to “resize, reposition or realign objects” within an image. Instant Slow Motion will automatically generate more frames to generate slow motion videos from regular videos.

Samsung said that the One UI 6.1 update based on Android 14 will be rolled out to the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series at the end of March. The company added that some Galaxy AI features on the S24 series may not be supported on older models, and some features require an internet connection, a Samsung account, or the company’s built-in apps.
