Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Wednesday that it had thwarted Ukrainian missile and drone attacks targeting several Russian regions, while EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell proposed using revenues from Russia’s frozen assets in Europe to boost funding for Fund to provide military support to Ukraine.
Russia said its air defense systems destroyed 13 Ukrainian missiles and a drone over the Belgorod region on the border with Ukraine.
The Defense Ministry said four more Ukrainian drones were destroyed over the Saratov region in western Russia.
Roman Busargin, the governor of Saratov region, said on Telegram that the falling debris caused no casualties or damage on the ground.
In Brussels, Borrell presented his proposal to direct earnings, such as interest earned on Russian assets, into a European peace fund.
He said the funding would amount to about $3 billion annually.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmihal is in Brussels for talks with EU officials, and Borrell said the talks would include discussions on support for Ukraine’s protection against Russia and Ukraine’s path to EU membership.
