New York, United States of America (USA)

As Indians are facing problems with many domestic airlines, it seems the problem has reached the international level. Recently, a Reddit user shared a horrible experience with a Lufthansa flight and accused the airline of discriminating against Indians, especially those who cannot speak English.

The user claims to be a New York resident visiting his family in India, and alleges that the airline attendants are ‘rude and disrespectful’ towards Indian passengers. In the post now going viral, he pointed out that both the cabin crew and ground staff displayed aggressive behavior when approached for help.

Recalling the attendant’s behavior, he said, “I asked an airline representative where I could fill my water bottle in Frankfurt” to which he (the attendant) replied, “Do I look like an information desk to you, I Don’t ask.” Sharing the account of another Indian passenger on the flight, he said that two crew members insulted the passengers, “especially those who were older and could not speak good English.”

He claims that he witnessed this behavior with many other Indian passengers on the flight. “A woman at the beverage cart was pointing to tea and saying “yes” because she couldn’t articulate well what she wanted. Instead of understanding, a crew member almost yelled at him and said ‘Open your mouth, and use your words.’

When another Indian passenger wanted something as simple as a napkin, he was asked to wait for his turn. He concluded the post by saying that he could not imagine American or European customers being treated like this by Lufthansa Airlines crews.

“I understand that the role of cabin crew is difficult and demanding. However, I can’t justify spending ~800$ on a ticket and seeing how disrespectful the crew can treat people. I will also give this feedback to the airline,” the user said.

Paytm CEO’s reaction

The user’s post caught the attention of Paytm founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma, who re-tweeted and said, “‘Can’t wait to go to Air India and IndiGo locations – many of us don’t fly on European airlines. Would like to fill.”
