Ramadan in India begins on Tuesday after the crescent moon was sighted in Saudi Arabia on Monday.

Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days, depending on the appearance of the moon, and is a time of fasting, prayer, reflection and community gatherings. It was during this month in 610 that the Prophet Muhammad received his first revelation of the Qur’an, making it the holiest moment on the Islamic calendar.
