Police officials said that miscreants pelted stones at a procession taken out in Thane district on the occasion of the consecration of the idol of Ram temple in Ayodhya on Monday evening, which is the second incident of violence in the district in less than 24 hours.

MBVV Additional Police Commissioner Shrikant Phatak asked the people of the colony to maintain peace and said action was being taken against those involved in the incidents.

He asked people not to believe in rumors and warned against putting up social media posts that are provocative or can disrupt peace by creating fights between communities.

He said that CCTV footage is being examined to nab the culprits. Police immediately reached the site of Sunday’s clash and controlled the situation.

Earlier in the day, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio, said 13 people had been arrested in connection with the group clash.

Several relatives of these 13 persons protested in front of Naya Nagar police station and Congress leader Muzaffar Hussain was seen pacifying the angry people.

He told the families of those arrested that the police were doing their job and action would be taken only against those found involved in the clash.

In Panvel, Shiv Sena leader Prathamesh Soman, former corporator Mookheed Qazi and social activist Iqbal Qazi told reporters that some incidents have taken place but the situation is peaceful at present.

He said Hindus and Muslims have been living harmoniously in the city for centuries. He said that the police should take action against those posting rumors and provocative messages on social media.
