New Delhi:
The Election Commission on Monday condemned BJP leader Dilip Ghosh and Congress’s Supriya Shrine for making derogatory remarks about the dignity of women.
The committee said it was convinced they had breached the Model Code of Conduct by committing a low-level assault.
They have been warned to exercise caution in their public remarks during the Standard Code of Conduct period. Starting Monday, their election-related communications will be subject to special and additional monitoring by the commission.
A copy of the warning notice or reprimand will also be marked to the respective party secretaries to remind their staff to be careful while communicating in the public domain and not to make any such derogatory remarks and violations of the norms of the Model Code.
On the social media platform, Ms Shrinate posted a controversial comment on the account of Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut, who was fielded by the BJP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
After a row, Ms Shrinath deleted the controversial comments from all her social accounts, claiming they were not posted by her but by someone else who had access to her account.
In the video, Mr Ghosh mocked Trinamool Congress party chief Mamata Banerjee’s family background. He later apologized for his controversial remarks against the West Bengal chief minister.
