The Ranchi district administration has filed an FIR against senior CRPF personnel for “violating” prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC during the questioning of Chief Minister Hemant Soren by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case, an official said on Monday.

He said that the FIR was lodged at Gonda police station on Sunday.

“We have lodged an FIR against the CRPF IG, Commandant and other personnel for violating the provisions of Section 144 around the chief minister’s residence on Sunday,” Ranchi Circle Officer Munshi Ram told PTI.

Ram said an FIR has also been registered against JMM workers and ‘Bhim Army’ supporters for violating prohibitory orders.

The district administration had imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 near Soren’s official residence, where he was interrogated from 7 am to 11 pm on Saturday, with no demonstrations, carrying of weapons and public meetings allowed. .

ED officials had questioned Soren in a money laundering case related to the land deal.

The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) had on Sunday alleged that CRPF personnel were trying to enter the chief minister’s residence without any permission during questioning.

JMM had claimed in a statement, “They wanted the agitators and party workers to attack the CRPF jawans to accuse the state government of failure of the constitutional order and to prepare the ground for imposing President’s rule.”

Meanwhile, the opposition BJP alleged that despite prohibitory orders being imposed, thousands of JMM workers had gathered near the CM’s house to “threaten ED officials”.
