Rajnath Singh responds to CPI(M) manifesto's commitment to dismantle India's nuclear weapons

The Communist Party of India (M) in its manifesto promised to dismantle all nuclear weapons in India.

Kasaragod, Kerala:

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh today questioned the CPI(M)’s election manifesto’s intention to dismantle all nuclear weapons in India and demanded to know the Congress’ stand on the issue.

Rajnath Singh said talk of dismantling India’s nuclear weapons amounted to toying with national security and that there was a “deep-rooted conspiracy to weaken the country”.

He accused the Left and Congress, two anti-BJP allies, of apparently trying to weaken the country.

Addressing a public meeting in Kasaragod Lok Sabha seat seeking votes for BJP candidate Ashwini, Rajnath Singh asked the Congress to clarify its commitment to the CPI(M)’s manifesto pledge The position of abolition of nuclear weapons as it was the Indira Gandhi government launched the country’s nuclear program in 1974.

He said India strives to become one of the world’s 11 nuclear powers and dismantling nuclear weapons will weaken a country whose neighbors Pakistan and China are both nuclear powers.

The Communist Party of India (Maoist) said in its manifesto that it will “completely eliminate nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction”.

Rajnath Singh said the NDA government had fulfilled its past promises by abrogating Article 370, abolishing triple talaq and building the Ram temple during its 10-year rule.

He said if the BJP is re-elected, then all Modi’s guarantees – India becoming the world’s top economy, welfare of farmers, huge progress in space and development of the country – will be fulfilled.
