Amid the run-fest in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Varun Chakravarthy suggested that the bowlers should dance only after sixes and not at every boundary hit by the batsmen. There has been a huge increase in the number of boundaries hit during matches in IPL 2024, with 250+ scores breached several times this season. As a result, cheerleaders are struggling with the workload. Keeping in mind the trend of cheerleaders dancing after every boundary, Chakraborty made this cheeky suggestion after the match between KKR and Delhi Capitals.

“Unfortunately it has become a trend and maybe they should only dance on sixes and not on fours (laughs),” Chakraborty said after receiving the Man of the Match award on Monday.

Chakravarthy recorded match-winning figures of 3/16 from his four overs as KKR restricted DC to 153/9 in 20 overs.

In reply, Phil Salt took the lead with the bat for KKR and the opener scored 68 runs off just 33 balls.

In the end, Shreyas Iyer (33 not out; 23b) and Venkatesh Iyer (26 not out; 23b) completed the chase as KKR achieved the target in 16.3 overs and improved their net run rate to 1.096.

Asked to reflect on his performance, Chakraborty said it was good to take some wickets after a tough performance last time out against Punjab Kings, who set an IPL record target of 263 runs last week.

“It (the pitch) was holding a bit and you could see it was turning more as the game progressed. (On Rishabh Pant’s wicket and his match-up) The first ball, when the catch was dropped. I think that was a better ball. The ball he got out could have gone for six runs on any other ground. The conversation between him and Narine has become a good one. (laughs). Mostly he is there for me. After giving so many runs in the last game, everyone including Abhishek Nair said well. he adds.
