Jaipur, Nov 3 (IANS) In a tragic road tragedy that took place in Jaipur’s Harmara area on Monday, a speeding dumper truck crushed 17 vehicles one after the other, killing 14 people and injuring 10 others. Police gave this information.
The collision was so severe that the bodies were mutilated beyond recognition, with many victims having their limbs amputated at the accident site.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief over the incident, saying, “Saddened by the loss of lives due to an accident in Jaipur, Rajasthan. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover soon.”
The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from PMNRF (Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund) for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each for the injured.
Police have seized the Thar car involved in the accident and have started investigating the cause, with speeding and reckless driving suspected.
According to the police, the incident happened near Loha Mandi at around 1 pm on Monday afternoon.
The dumper (registration number RJ-14 GP 8724) was reportedly moving from Road No. 14 towards Loha Mandi Petrol Pump to reach the highway, when it lost control and hit multiple vehicles.
As soon as the information was received, police and emergency teams reached the spot.
Six seriously injured victims have been admitted to the Sawai Man Singh Hospital Trauma Centre, where doctors and nursing staff are providing emergency care.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the dumper driver, identified as Kalyan Meena, a resident of Viratnagar, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
He was caught on the spot and later taken to the hospital for treatment in police custody.
Police sources said that about one and a half km before the accident, the dumper driver had an argument with a car driver near a petrol pump.
Moments later, the uncontrolled dumper collided with vehicles parked in the queue ahead, triggering a series of collisions.
The scene at Loha Mandi was like a disaster site, with damaged cars, bikes and debris scattered on the road.
Police have started investigating the incident and are recording statements of eyewitnesses.
Traffic in the area remained disrupted for hours as rescue operations continued.
