Bhubaneswar, Nov 4 (IANS) Odisha Police has arrested another key accused in connection with the multi-crore police sub-inspector (SI) recruitment exam scam, the crime branch revealed in a press statement on Monday.
The crime branch has identified the accused as Suresh Nayak, promoter of M/s Silicon Tech Pvt Ltd. Ltd., which was solely responsible for the preparation, printing and transportation of question papers for the examination.
It is pertinent to mention that Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB) had entrusted the conduct of Combined Police Services Examination (CPSE)-2024 for SI recruitment to ITI Limited, which later handed over the work to M/s Silicon Tech Pvt. Ltd. Ltd.
In turn, the private agency reportedly included Punchsoft Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Ltd. to execute key components of the examination process.
During investigation, the Crime Branch found that Shankar Prusty, Director of Punchsoft Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Ltd. carried out the entire SI recruitment scam with the help of its associates – Muna Mohanty, Shrikant Maharana alias Rinku, Arabinda Das, T. Abhimanyu Dora and Priyadarshini Samal.
A crime branch team had earlier succeeded in arresting mastermind Prasti from Uttarakhand near the India-Nepal border when he was allegedly trying to flee the country.
The crime branch further said that Nayak maintained close relations with Prasti.
“During the investigation, it was revealed that Nayak was in constant touch with the mastermind Prusty. The evidence revealed that Nayak had provided shelter to Prusty at his company’s guest house in Kalkaji, New Delhi, and then alerted him to flee the said premises and evade police arrest and investigation, thereby clearly establishing their nexus,” the crime branch said.
Notably, Odisha Police had first busted the large-scale scam with the arrest of 114 candidates and three middlemen after stopping three buses in Andhra Pradesh on the night of September 29.
Later, during the ongoing investigation, several more associates of the mastermind were arrested.
