Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will arrive here on Wednesday to file his nomination papers for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
He will also hold roadshows in the constituency which he won by a huge margin of over 400,000 votes in the 2019 Assembly elections.
The party said Rahul Gandhi will arrive at Mupayinad village here by helicopter and then travel to Kalpetta by road.
He will hold a roadshow in Kalpetta at 11 am, accompanied by his sister Priyanka Gandhi and AICC general secretaries KC Venugopal and Deepa Das, AICC National Students Union of India chief Kanhaiya Kumar and leaders of the opposition in the state assembly VD Satheesan and KPCC Acting Chairman MM Hassan.
It is said that thousands of party workers and supporters may attend the roadshow.
The roadshow will end near the civil station around noon, after which Rahul will submit his nomination papers to the district collector, the party said.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi polled 7,06,367 votes out of a total of 10,92,197 votes, while his nearest rival – Communist Party of India’s PP Suneer – only 2,74,597 votes were received.
This year the Kerala Lok Sabha polls will be held on April 26.
