Wayanad, Kerala:

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today filed nomination papers from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala.

Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by his sister Priyanka Gandhi and other senior party leaders including AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, submitted to the Wayanad district collector, who is also the returning officer Nomination documents.

After submitting his paper, he concluded the submission process by reciting an oath to uphold the Constitution.

Rahul Gandhi arrived in Wayanad by helicopter in the morning and held a roadshow from Kalpetta to the civil station here before reaching the district collector’s office to submit his nomination.

Addressing the public at the end of his roadshow before reaching the Collector’s office, he said he always stood with the people of Wayanad on all issues, including those in the highland areas of the state which claimed many lives Conflicts with animals.

Rahul Gandhi, the sitting MP from Wayanad, also said that he is always ready to bring the issues faced by the people of the hill constituency to national and world attention.

Rahul Gandhi will contest against BJP state president K Surendran and Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Annie Raja from Wayanad LS constituency. In 2019, he won from the same seat with a huge margin of over 4 lakh votes.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi polled 7,06,367 votes out of a total of 10,92,197 votes, while his nearest rival – Communist Party of India’s PP Suneer – only 2,74,597 votes were received.

This year the Kerala Lok Sabha polls will be held on April 26.
