Among his six poll promises ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said full statehood of Delhi and free healthcare to everyone in the country are some of his main target. Mr Kejriwal’s speech was delivered by his wife Sunita Kejriwal at a large opposition rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi.

The rally, titled ‘Loktantra Bachao’ or ‘Save Democracy’, saw the gathering of key opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Malikajun Haq and Farooq Abdullah.

As opposition leaders and party workers gathered in the national capital, Sunita Kejriwal read out a letter from her husband, who is currently under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Delhi liquor policy scam. ED) detention.

  1. 24-hour power supply nationwide
  2. Provide free electricity to poor people across the country
  3. Build excellent public schools in every village and street
  4. Establish mohalla clinics in every village and community
  5. Ensure fair prices for crops as stipulated in Swaminathan Commission Report
  6. Grant full statehood to Delhi.

Addressing the crowd, Sunita Kejriwal conveyed her husband’s message as he remains jailed in a money laundering case related to erstwhile Delhi’s excise tax policy. “Mother India is suffering, this tyranny will not work,” she declared.

Among the many prominent opposition leaders present at the rally were Sharad Pawar of the NCP, Uddhav Thackeray of the Shiv Sena (UBT), Akhilesh of the Samajwadi Party Yadav, CPI(M)’s Sitaram Yechury, CPI’s D. Raja, People’s Democratic Party’s Mehbooba Mufti and Jharkhand Chief Minister Shanpai Soren.

Senior AAP leader and Delhi minister Gopal Rai termed the ‘Loktantra Bachao’ rally as the last chance to defend the Indian Constitution and the spirit of democracy under the banner of the National Indian Development Inclusion Alliance (INDIA).

The Congress clarified that the rally was not targeting any individual but was a joint effort to protect the dignity of the Constitution and democracy.
