Former India batsman Virender Sehwag has backed Shivam Dube for a place in the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup between West Indies and the United States. Dube has had a stellar season with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). As a substitute, Dube scored 34, 51, 18 and 45 runs in CSK’s first four games. Sehwag feels Dube’s current form could be a bit worrisome for players like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer, who are also in contention to make the squad for the T20 World Cup.
Sehwag feels the management should pick players who are in good form, adding that Dube’s selection is almost certain.
“I had said before the game that with Shivam Dube’s performance, he should get a ticket for the T20 World Cup. He gave Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Suryaku There is a lot of pressure on players like Mal Yadav, KL Rahul and now they have to deliver consistent results to make it into the World Cup squad. Take players who are in form,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz Hindi said.
India’s legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also assured Dube’s selection for the T20 World Cup after scoring a blistering 22-ball 45 against SRH on Friday.
Yuvraj said on X show that Dube can prove himself to be a game-changer for the Indian team during the T20 World Cup.
“Great to see @IamShivamDube clearing the field with ease!! I feel he must be in the World Cup squad. He has what it takes to be a #gamechanger #CSKvsSRH #IPLT20,” he said.
