Royal insiders suggest Princess Kate and Prince William are taking a “new approach” with Princess Charlotte.

On Tuesday, the Prince and Princess of Wales unveiled a new portrait of Prince Louis to celebrate his sixth birthday.

However, in a departure from tradition he avoided releasing the image to the media the night before, instead opting to bypass all the photo agencies and share it directly on his social media platforms.

The decision may have been influenced by the controversy surrounding Princess Kate on Mother’s Day last month, when she admitted to “adjusting” her latest family photo.

The photo was later retracted by major international photo agencies such as Getty Images, the Press Association and Reuters. Kate, 42, later apologized on social media for any “confusion” caused by the digital changes.

Typically, Kate and Prince William have followed the tradition of sharing new photos of their children with the media on the eve of their birthdays.

However, insiders claimed to The Times that the “new process” of posting directly to their social media channels will continue for Princess Charlotte’s birthday next month.

Charlotte, the middle child of the Prince and Princess of Wales, will turn nine on May 2.

Meanwhile, their eldest child and heir apparent to the throne, Prince George, will turn 11 on July 22.

If Kate and William continue their “new process with Charlotte,” it’s likely the same will happen with George.

It is understood the Wales family were discussing when to release Prince Louis’ birthday photo as Kate is currently receiving cancer treatment.
