The Queen hosted an event to celebrate the power of reading, becoming the most senior royal to return to public duty since a double cancer scare in the monarchy.

The Queen has gathered writers, academics and celebrity supporters for an evening reception at Clarence House to mark new research commissioned by the Queen’s Reading Room Literary Project.

Guests included a host of celebrity supporters from the Queen’s Reading Room, including actors Helena Bonham Carter, Sir Derek Jacobi, Rupert Everett, Edward Fox and author Sir Ian Rankin , Val McDermid and Sir Ben Okri.

Camila, an avid reader whose literary projects have grown beyond her initial online book club, highlighted the research in a presentation.

She said: “… in addition to 5 and 10,000 steps a day, we should all aim to read for at least 5 minutes a day, which has immeasurable benefits for brain health and mental health.

“As we’ve always suspected, books are good for us—and now science proves we’re right!”

A source close to the Middleton family revealed independent: “Carol has been the driving force that keeps the family together, with the minimum of trouble and the utmost humility.

“She picked up George, Louis and Charlotte, took them to school sporting events and gave them endless support. She was a true Mary Poppins character.”
