Porsche will let users control some vehicle functions through Apple CarPlay

Car manufacturers are focusing on adopting several new technologies with the comfort and safety of car owners in mind.

While some automakers are abandoning Apple CarPlay in favor of built-in solutions, others are embracing this smartphone integration technology.One of the famous car manufacturers supporting Apple CarPlay technology is Porsche.

The German automaker has become the first to let users control some vehicle functions through Apple CarPlay, Motor Authority reports. This means no longer having to exit the CarPlay interface to adjust certain vehicle settings and then return to CarPlay to continue using the mobile app.

CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your iPhone while driving. Individuals can get directions, make calls, send and receive messages, and listen to your favorite songs. The report details that the My Porsche app is now accessible via CarPlay, which allows CarPlay users to perform functions such as adjusting audio settings, radio stations, climate control, and ambient lighting. Many features can also be controlled using Apple’s Siri voice assistant. Requires Porsche Infotainment version 6.0 or higher.

According to a Motor Authority report, a new aspect is that CarPlay users can use the Performance Dashboard feature to monitor performance data in real-time, such as top speed, average speed, G-forces, distance traveled, and more.

Using Apple Maps in CarPlay also considers electric vehicle (EV) specific data and performs optimized EV routing during a trip. The My Porsche app has features for Apple Watch users. Users can remotely access vehicle information, adjust climate settings, and lock and unlock the vehicle.

The Motor Authority report highlights that Porsche has made additional upgrades to the My Porsche app that non-Apple users can also benefit from. These include a simplified home screen that offers more functionality than before. These are part of new Quick Actions that provide direct access to frequently used features.

The next version of the smartphone integration system is planned to integrate the vehicle more closely with CarPlay. Reports suggest it will expand beyond the infotainment screen to include a digital instrument cluster.
