Sophie Wessex steps into King Charles’ shoes for important milestone

Sophie Wessex marked an important milestone for the royal family by traveling abroad.

Duchess of Edinburgh becomes first member of the royal family to visit Ukraine since Russian conflict began mirror.

Sophie, who is visiting Ukraine at the request of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, met Ukrainian President and First Lady Volodymyr Zelensky and Olena Zelenska on Monday morning.

During the visit, the Duchess delivered a message on behalf of the King, who is currently battling cancer.

However, on the recommendation of his doctors, the monarch is scheduled to return to public duties on Tuesday.

A post shared by Buckingham Palace shared highlights of Sophie’s visit in which she learned about women, men and children affected by war.

“At the United Nations Survivor Relief Center in Kiev, the Duchess learned about the work of the United Nations Population Fund, which operates in 12 cities across Ukraine to support people in need, particularly survivors of conflict-related sexual violence. Provides vital psychosocial and legal support.” Read the caption.

“Her Royal Highness also met female volunteers who are helping their communities cope with the aftermath of the attacks through facilitating mental health care activities for children.”
