PM raises Katchatheevu controversy, says he will continue to expose DMK’s ‘dangerous politics’

Prime Minister Modi attacked the DMK over the issue of drug smuggling in the state.

Vellore (Tamil Nadu):

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a blistering attack on the DMK-led ruling alliance in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday and said he would continue to expose the state’s ruling party’s “decades of dangerous politics”.

Addressing a rally in Vellore, PM Modi claimed that the DMK has made people fight in the name of region, religion and caste and the regional party knows that once people understand the politics of divide and rule, the party will not get a single vote.

He also attacked the DMK over the issue of drug smuggling in the state.

“Whose protection do these drug mafia get? Which family does the drug mafia arrested by NCB belong to?… The DMK party allows people to fight in the name of region, religion and caste. That’s why they make people fight each other for votes and I decided to continue to expose this decades-long dangerous politics of the DMK. “

The Prime Minister once again targeted the Congress and DMK over the Katchatheevu issue, saying both parties have been keeping the country in the dark for years.

He alleged that the Congress and DMK were showing false sympathy to Sri Lanka for arresting fishermen near the island.

“Another act of hypocrisy by the Congress and DMK is now being debated across the country. When the Congress was in power at the Centre, they handed over Kachatiu Island to Sri Lanka. Fishermen are arrested in the past few years and then they (Congress) show false sympathy,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister further said that the ruling government has been working hard to bring back Indian fishermen from Sri Lanka.

“The NDA government is continuously working to bring these fishermen back,” he added.

Modi recently launched an attack on Congress over the 1974 “cedion” of the island. Citing media reports, he claimed that new facts showed that Congress had “ruthlessly” surrendered Kachatye Island to Sri Lanka.

The media report is based on an RTI reply received by Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party chief K Annamalai to a query he had regarding the agreement signed between India and Lanka in 1974, when Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister.

In his speech, Prime Minister Modi also praised Tamil Nadu and said that the state has contributed to the aerospace sector and manufacturing industry.

“India is emerging as a world power today and Tamil Nadu has played a vital role. Tamil Nadu has contributed to the aerospace sector and manufacturing. I believe the defense corridor being constructed will bring the state Take it to the next level,” he added.
