Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated ‘Namo Bharat’, India’s first semi-high-speed regional rail service. This historic moment marks the launch of India’s Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). It is worth noting that since opening to the public on October 21, 2023, these trains have carried an average daily passenger capacity of approximately 3,000 passengers. Recently, an X user posted a stunning video of a Namo Bharat train crossing the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. The Eastern Peripheral Expressway is a 135-km-long six-lane expressway that passes through the states of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was impressed by the visuals and praised users, calling it a “great video”. He said the users’ timelines are a good showcase of the new India they are building together.
“Amazing view of the #Namo_Bharat train crossing the Eastern Peripheral Highway,” Mohit Kumar, a YouTuber who covers infrastructure projects, wrote while sharing the video on X.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, ‘Namo Bharat’ is a transformational regional development initiative that aims to provide high-speed trains for inter-city commuting.
The 17-km priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is between Sahibabad and Duhai stations, with a total of 5 stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Gurdhar, Duhai and Duhai stations.
RRTS trains prioritize passenger comfort with features such as overhead storage, Wi-Fi and charging options at every seat. CCTV cameras, emergency door openings and buttons to communicate with the train operator are among the train’s safety features.
The entire 82.15 km-long Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS is scheduled to be operational by June 2025.
