Inbound and outbound passengers London Euston suffered major disruption today due to signal failure as the West Coast Main Line reopened after four days of closure Easter.

Some passengers were stuck on the train for more than two hours, with Network Rail apologizing for the incident and stressing that its engineers were “working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible”.

Avanti West Coast issued an alert to passengers, saying: “Trains to and from London Euston may be canceled or delayed due to a signaling system failure affecting multiple platforms at the station.”

West Coast Main Line service stations include Birmingham New Street, Liverpool Lime Street, Manchester Piccadilly and Glasgow Central.

A Network Rail spokesman said: “We deeply apologize for the disruption at Euston station and we are doing everything we can to resolve the issue.

“Our signaling system is designed to turn the signal light red if a problem is detected as a safety ‘fail-safe’ and this has already been done on some tracks approaching the station this afternoon.

“We are working with operators to run trains on normally operating routes and platforms, but are experiencing delays and cancellations as a result.

“We advise passengers to check with their operator before traveling to or from Euston this afternoon and we will work hard to identify and resolve the issue.”

The disruption comes after Euston station was closed to long-distance services between Good Friday and Easter Monday due to engineering work, which included updating the track between the station and Milton Keynes.

The disruption comes after Euston station was closed to long-distance services between Good Friday and Easter Monday due to engineering work, which included updating the track between the station and Milton Keynes.
