India captain Rohit Sharma recently claimed that the resumption of bilateral matches with Pakistan would be a huge boost for Test cricket. Now, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has reacted to Rohit’s remarks. For the uninitiated, India has not played Pakistan in a bilateral series for more than a decade due to political differences between the two countries. During a discussion on the Prairie Fire Club podcast, former England captain Michael Vaughan questioned Rohit saying: “Don’t you think it would be great for Test cricket for India to play Pakistan regularly?”.

Responding to the question, Rohit said: “I have every confidence that if we play overseas, they are a good team with a top-notch bowling line-up, a good game. The last Test was in 2007- It was played in ’08. Yes, I would love to play (against Pakistan), it will be a great game between the two sides and we play them in the International Cricket Federation Trophy and I’m watching pure cricket. , great game, so why not?” Rohit had said.

Afridi has now praised Rohit for his “positive words” and said sports can help resolve differences between India and Pakistan.

“Bilkul bahut acha jamab hai, hona bhi yahi chahiye (Very good answer, the series should happen). Positive statement from the Indian captain. He is also the Indian ambassador. We have always said that the relationship between Pakistan and India is good. … .Sports – especially cricket – played a big role in this. We used to go to India to play cricket and these things build relationships… padosi hai padosiyo ka haq hota relationships jitna behtar ho utna acha hai (neighbours). It is right to maintain good relations between the two countries),” Afridi said on Sama TV.
