The ‘Wizard of Ahmedabad’ Jasprit Bumrah was once again a key figure for the Mumbai Indians as the Hardik Pandya-led side lost to the Defeated Kings XI Punjab by 9 runs in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) match. Bumrah’s performance of 3 for 21 in 4 overs was crucial to MI’s win, with PBK almost done with the help of debutants Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh A heroic chase. After Bumrah was named Man of the Match, West Indies legend Ian Bishop heaped praises on the standout pacer.
In his post, Bishop demanded that Bumrah be awarded a PhD in recognition of his fast bowling. He also gave him the nickname “Professor”.
“If I could give Jasprit Bumrah a doctorate in fast bowling, I would. He is a great communicator, knowledgeable and articulate. Then I would make him a champion for aspiring seam bowlers across the country at all levels Young people giving bowling lectures. I won’t wait until he retires,” Bishop posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Bumrah admitted after the match that Mumbai won by a narrow margin even though the target of 193 looked out of reach early in the match.
“It was a close game. It was much closer than we thought. Of course, you want to make an impact when the ball does something. In this format, the ball swings twice. When I want to bowl more This format is a bit difficult for the bowlers because of the time constraints and the batting line-up gets deeper but that’s out of your control. Don’t want to send too much information in the heat of the moment,” Bumrah said after the game.
