Police on Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly burning a copy of the Ramayana and a picture of a deity and posting a video of the act on social media. Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Kumar Meena said Rishi Dutt Mishra, a native of Sarai Kaiyan in Ramchandra Mission, was arrested after he was identified in the video by the social media team of the local police.

The reason behind this act was not immediately clear. “The accused burnt a picture of Lord Hanuman and a copy of Ramayana. They recorded a video of the act and posted it online,” Meena said, adding that the incident took place on Tuesday night.

Mishra was caught after the video circulated on social media on Wednesday. The SP said an FIR was lodged against him at Ram Chandra Mission police station. The incident occurred a day after the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
