Ofcom finds UK News breached rules when Laurence Fox ‘disparaged’ journalist

Britain’s media watchdog has ruled that an episode of British news program “The Tonight Show with Dan Wootton” in which former actor Laurence Fox questioned who would want to “fuck” a female reporter broke broadcasting rules.

“Who would want to do this?” asked Fox, the leader of the right-wing Ennahda party, in his speech. JOE Media’s political reporter Ava Evans received 8,867 complaints.

Foxx and host Wootton were both suspended from the channel after the Sept. 26 broadcast, with Foxx later fired.

Ofcom said on Monday: “An Ofcom investigation has today concluded that an episode of British news program The Dan Wootton Tonight Show breached broadcasting rules designed to protect viewers from offensive content.”

In a ruling, the company said his comments “constituted a highly personal attack on Ms Evans and were likely to be highly offensive to viewers”.

“They reduced her contribution to the broadcast discussion of mental health in her professional capacity as a political journalist to a judgment about whether she or women like her who openly expressed political views were attractive to men,” it added. .

The media watchdog said it found Fox’s comments “insulting and insulting to Ms Evans and women in general” and “clearly and unambiguously misogynistic”.

The media watchdog also found that Wootton’s reaction and the “limited challenge” in his response “did not lessen the likelihood of offence”.

“Instead, they exacerbate the situation because they contribute to a narrative in which a woman’s worth is judged based on her appearance.”

After the ruling, Fox said in a statement to

“I still think this is one of the biggest displays of manufactured outrage I’ve ever seen, but for the sake of openness and transparency.”

He claimed that “everything” he said on-air was “discussed and agreed upon with the production team beforehand” and that they “laughed and joked” about it.

He also claimed the channel had a delay so they could have “cut the feed, but they didn’t”.

In the clip, Fox calls Evans a “little woman” and goes on to say: “Show me a man with self-respect who is willing to sleep with a woman who is not alone forever.

“We need strong, strong, amazing women doing great things for themselves. We don’t need this Feminism 4.0. They’re pathetic and embarrassing. Who wants to fuck that?

After it aired in September, Evans posted the video to “I felt physically ill,” Zhong added.

At the time, UK News issued a statement saying Fox’s stance “does not reflect our values.”

In a reply sent to Apologize unreservedly.” We have launched an investigation and apologized to those involved. “

On Monday, Ofcom said it had “serious concerns about GB News’ editorial control of its live content” and requested a meeting with the broadcaster to discuss its “compliant practices” on the subject.
