Compulsory Six Airbags In Cars Upto 8 Passengers: The government is constantly working to make road safety and vehicles safe for the people. In this episode, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said in a tweet on Friday (January 14) that he has approved the draft GSR notification to make minimum six airbags mandatory for motor vehicles with a capacity of up to eight passengers. .

He made many tweets in a row. The Union Minister also said that ‘Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) had already made airbag mandatory for the driver with effect from 1st July 2019 and airbags for the front seat co-travellers to be mandatory from 1st January 2022. Already happened.’ In this way, at present it is necessary to provide two airbags in the car.

Gadkari wrote in a tweet, “To reduce the impact of front and lateral collisions, it has been decided that 4 additional airbags will be required for both front and rear occupants in M1 vehicle category.” Gadkari wrote, “This is a necessary step to make motor vehicles in India safer than ever before.”

According to government data, a total of 1.16 lakh road accidents occurred on national highways in the year 2020, in which 47,984 people died. Gadkari had said in an interview last year that small cars, which are mainly preferred by the lower middle class, should also have proper airbags so that in case of an accident, the lives of the people in them can be saved.

He had said that car manufacturers provide eight airbags only in large cars with high prices. Gadkari had said that small cars are mostly bought by the lower middle class families, but due to not having enough airbags in them, the possibility of death of passengers increases in case of an accident.
