The Airtel Payments Bank smartwatch was launched in India on Tuesday (March 19). This marks the telecom operator’s foray into smartwatches and is the first device it has launched. The smartwatch was developed in partnership with wearable brand Noise and payments technology provider Mastercard. The key feature of the Airtel smartwatch is that it supports NFC, allowing users to make contactless ‘Tap and Pay’ payments up to Rs. 25,000 per day.

The Airtel Payments Bank smartwatch price has been set at Rs. 2,999. It is available in black, blue and gray. However, this smartwatch can only be purchased by existing members of Airtel Payments Bank. A bank account can be created digitally, but will need to be created before ordering the wearable. The Airtel watch is now on sale and can be purchased immediately. It can only be purchased through the AirtelThanks app. Not available on any other e-commerce platform or offline retailer.

Airtel Payment Bank Smart Watch Specifications, Features

Airtel’s first smartwatch comes with an NFC chip that enables the device to make contactless payments through Airtel Payments Bank. The device can be activated by linking to a savings bank account via the Thanks app.

Once connected, users can start paying instantly by tapping their watch at a point-of-sale (POS) machine with tap-to-pay functionality. Users can pay up to Rs. 25,000 people pass through the facility every day. The technology provider for smartwatches is Mastercard, which supports NFC chips through its network.

According to the press release, the Airtel smartwatch is designed and produced by Noise. It features a 1.85-inch square TFT display with 550 nits brightness and offers 150 cloud-based watch faces. Health and fitness features of the Airtel watch include a stress monitor and SpO2 sensor. It supports Bluetooth calls and is IP68 dustproof and waterproof certified. The company claims that the smartwatch’s battery can last up to 10 days.
