History of NDRF Foundation Day

The story of NDRF is set in the wake of the natural disasters that devastated India from 1990 to 2004. Given the widespread impact of these disasters, the nation took decisive action with the enactment of the Disaster Management Act on December 26, 2005. This paved the way for the formation of the NDRF on January 19, 2006, a force dedicated to protecting and serving the country in times of crisis.

1. sixteen battalions strongThe NDRF consists of 16 battalions, each of which operates on a paramilitary basis with unwavering commitment. These battalions draw their strength from experienced personnel on deputation from various paramilitary forces across India.

A Tapestry of ExpertiseImagine the combined might of the Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Central Industrial Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Sashastra Seema Bal and Assam Rifles! Each of these forces contributes two battalions to the NDRF, forming a diverse and highly skilled unit. With a total strength of approximately 1149 personnel per battalion, NDRF represents a strong line of defense against disasters.
