New Delhi:

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation has announced that the toll on the Bandra Worli Sea Link in Mumbai will be increased by 18% from April 1. According to news agency PTI, the toll increase is limited to one-way journeys.

Following the implementation of surge rates, cars and jeeps will have to pay Rs 100 from Monday, up from the current Rs 85.

On the other hand, minibuses, tempos and similar vehicles have to pay Rs 160. Earlier, these vehicles paid Rs 130.

While a two-axle truck currently costs Rs 175, a one-way trip will cost Rs 210 from tomorrow.

The old rates will be implemented in April 2021. The new rates will be valid for three years, from April 1 to March 31, 2027.

The report also said that MSRDC officials announced that motorists can enjoy 10% rebate and 20% rebate on purchase of prepaid booklets of 50 passes and 100 passes.

The Bandra-Worli sea bridge was opened to the public in 2009. The cable-stayed bridge is named after the late former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. It connects Worli and Bandra in Mumbai, allowing commuters to easily avoid congestion in Dadar, Mahim, Prabhadevi and Worli neighbourhoods.

Commuters breathed a sigh of relief as Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated the Mumbai Coastal Highway. The 9.6-km-long expressway corridor also connects Worli and Marine Drive.

The coastal road is constructed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The project is proposed to connect the Marine Drive area in south Mumbai to the western suburb of Kandivali through the existing Bandra Worli Sea Link and is expected to ease northbound traffic in Mumbai.
