In a significant breakthrough, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has successfully arrested its most wanted gangster in South Africa, Mohammed Ghaus Niazi. The agency had placed a reward of Rs 5 lakh on Niazi, making him a high-profile target.
Mohammad Ghaus Niazi, a prominent leader of the Popular Front of India (PFI), is accused of murdering RSS leader Rudresh in Bengaluru in 2016. After the crime, Niazi had managed to escape the authorities by setting up residence in different countries.
The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) took up the task of tracking Niazi’s activities and eventually shared vital information with the central agency. South African authorities were then alerted, which led to the capture of the fugitive on their soil.
Niazi’s involvement in Rudresh’s murder had shocked the entire nation, prompting a relentless pursuit by law enforcement agencies.
After being detained in South Africa, the extradition process started fast, the fugitive is now on his way to India. Sources say he is currently being taken to Mumbai, where he will face trial for his alleged involvement in the murder of the RSS leader.
