A boy has died in hospital after being found in the River Thames.

Police launched an appeal to find five-year-old Daniel Alaby after he disappeared from his home in Thamesmead, south-east London, on Friday.

The Metropolitan Police said that at 6:23 p.m., police searching for Daniel found a child in the river.

Police performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

The child, believed to be Daniel, was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police added.

Daniel’s family have been informed of the incident and are receiving support from police.

The Met said there was no evidence anyone else was involved.
