Microsoft appoints former Google DeepMind co-founder to lead artificial intelligence products such as Copilot and Bing

Microsoft announced that Google DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman has joined the company as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Microsoft Artificial Intelligence. Suleyman will also serve as head of consumer AI products and research for Copilot, Bing and Edge.

Google DeepMind co-founder joins Microsoft

In 2010, Mustafa Suleyman co-founded the artificial intelligence technology company DeepMind, which was later acquired by Google in 2014. He worked on multiple projects until being promoted to Vice President of Artificial Intelligence Policy and Product Management in 2019. Suleyman left Google in 2022 to found Inflection AI, a company specializing in machine learning and generative AI hardware, and has served as CEO ever since.

At Microsoft, Suleyman joins Karen Simonyan, former chief scientist and co-founder of Inflection AI, and several other employees are expected to join the Washington-based tech giant.

Nadella also announced that Kevin Scott will continue as Microsoft’s chief technology officer and executive vice president of artificial intelligence, while Rajesh Jha will also continue as executive vice president of experiences and devices. The CEO further added that there are no other changes to the company’s senior leadership team.
